Stage 7: Evans masterful, Ullrich probably out of it
A tremendous performance by Cadel Evans saw him win a very exciting stage 7 of the tour of Germany. Due to Jeker impressive pace on the climb five riders Jeker, Evans, Leipheimer, Jaksche and Contador broke away from the rest with 3 km to go to the finish. Jaksche launched an attack with 500 meters to go but Evans countered finishing 11 seconds ahead of Jaksche and Jeker, with tour leader Leipheimer 15 seconds back.
Ullrich had cracked earlier in the race finishing 42 seconds behind.
As it stands now, Leipheimer has 33 seconds lead on teammate Totschnig with Evans third 58 seconds behind. Ullrich is 5th with 1 minute 26 seconds behind, even with the time trial ahead (his specialty) making up 1'26'' on Leipheimer seems like a tall order.
